Responsibilities

Berkley Professional Liability is seeking a Reserving Actuary to be located in their NYC office.

 

The Reserving Actuary reports to the Chief Actuary and will focus on quarterly and year end reserving.  This role will help grow and manage a profitable book of business within Berkley Professional Liability. 

 

Key functions will include but not be limited to:

  • Under the Chief Actuary’s guidance, be responsible for quarterly and year end reserving ultimate and reserve files maintenance
  • Monitor reserve adequacy
  • Collaborate with claims, finance, and underwriting to stay informed about business changes impacting reserves
  • Support external and internal audits and regulatory compliance related to reserve calculations
  • Continuously improve reserving methodologies and assumptions
  • Ad hoc projects

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree required ideally in mathematics or statistics. Masters degree preferred
  • 7+ years of Actuarial experience
  • D&O/E&O reserving experience a plus
  • ACAS or FCAS designation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products including SQL, Excel, VBA, and Access
  • Ability to efficiently extract, combine, validate and manipulate large quantities of multidimensional data.
  • Knowledge of programming languages R or Python is a plus
  • Strong attention to details: must produce accurate work products, proactively identify issues to be resolved
