Manager, Enterprise Software Release

The Manager, Enterprise Software Releases in Dana-Farber’s Research Informatics Operations (RIO) team is a crucial leader who will ensure the efficient and smooth delivery of software across a diverse portfolio of research applications and platforms. This role is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and coordination of software releases both on-premises and in the cloud—encompassing a portfolio of internally developed applications and vendor solutions—while minimizing disruption to essential research activities.

 

Manager, Enterprise Software Releases requires strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, as well as experience with an agile software delivery lifecycle (SDLC), continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), DevOps, and release management tools and processes.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive release calendar, coordinating with various internal and external teams to ensure alignment with project timelines and business objectives.
  • Work closely with QA teams to ensure thorough testing and validation of software releases, maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
  • Coordinate and track activities and resources across a matrix organization and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ensure that all releases comply with organizational policies and standards.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve release management processes, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Prepare and present release progress and status reports for stakeholders, highlighting key metrics, issues, risks, and mitigations.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of release engineers and coordinators, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly manages 2-5 FTE.
  • May supervise up to 10 additional FTE via matrix or vendor partnerships, including outsourced and offshore resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience as a project manager or program manager in healthcare technology.
  • 3+ years of indirect or direct people management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in project management or release management (e.g., PMP, ITIL).
  • Experience in agile software product development and delivering on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Direct experience using JIRA, Confluence, or similar product and project management tools.
  • Experience implementing and integrating automated testing strategies and tools.
  • Previous experience with large-scale, HIPAA-regulated healthcare data (PHI) and enterprise software.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Proficient project and program manager with excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software development and validation, including proficiency in project management, collaboration, and change management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow, Teams, source control).
  • An intellectual curiosity for learning new skills and modeling a culture of continuous learning, mentoring and coaching.
