Your Mission 

We are looking for a Senior Tax Manager – EMEA to join our fast-growing team. Reporting to our VP + Global Head of Taxation, you will be supporting the team on taxation with a key focus on corporate income taxation (“CIT”) for the Europe, Middle East + Africa (“EMEA) region. The EMEA region currently consists of legal entities in 8 EU member states (with Cyprus being the most material) + 5 non-EU jurisdictions. Nuvei’s presence in this region continues to grow with our global expansion strategy.This role sits within the recently formed Global Tax Function at Nuvei. We are looking for someone who has the drive to help build an internal tax function for a growing multi-national enterprise + act as a key partner to the business. The successful candidate will have a strong background in EMEA CIT – with a focus on the management of outsourced EMEA CIT compliance, CIT accounting under IAS 12, + international tax advisory to the business.

Responsibilities

1. Primary – Corporate Income Tax (“CIT”)

  • Preparation of Cypriot annual CIT returns for 3 Cypriot legal entities.
  • For the remaining 12 jurisdictions in the EMEA region, review all annual CIT returns prepared in those jurisdictions by outsourced tax advisors.
  • Administration of EMEA CIT compliance, which includes responding to various Tax Authority notices, assisting with audits by Tax Authorities, ensuring Tax Authority online portals are accessible, working with local Finance Team members to make periodic installment payments to various Tax Authorities, + maintaining the Tax Function’s SharePoint site.
  • Work with local Finance Team members to roll out new CIT provision preparation processes, in order to ensure smooth preparation of local CIT provisions by local Finance Team members. Review periodic CIT provisions for EMEA legal entities prepared by those local Finance Team members.
  • Working with the R&D Team + outsourced tax advisors to complete claims for R&D tax credits, as necessary.
  • Strong knowledge of, + practical experience working with, different aspects of international taxation, such as transfer pricing, country-by-country reporting, OECD Pillar II minimum tax, international tax restructuring + cross-border cash repatriation, is required.
  • Advising the Product + Finance Teams on EMEA CIT + CIT withholding issues that are relevant to the technology industry, consulting with outsourced tax advisors as necessary.

2. Ad-Hoc – Sales Tax

  • Advising the Product + Finance Teams on EMEA VAT implications of new + varied business initiatives, consulting with outsourced tax advisors as necessary.
  • Evaluate the cost-benefit of keeping EMEA VAT work currently being prepared by local Finance Teams vs. taking this work in-house + growing the Tax Team.
  • Familiarity with EMEA VAT legislation surrounding financial services, digital services, + cryptocurrency is a strong asset.

 

3. Ad-Hoc – Employment Tax

  • Advise the Payroll + HR Teams on EMEA employment tax + global employee mobility matters, consulting with outsourced tax advisors as necessary.
  • Familiarity with personal + corporate income taxation of equity awards (i.e. Stock Options, Restricted Stock Units, etc.) for both employees + consultants is an asset.

 

4. Ad-Hoc – Operational Tax Reporting

  • Advise the Product Team on the business changes warranted due to EMEA legislation surrounding third -party tax information reporting, such as e-invoicing, EU DAC 7 (Reporting obligations of digital platforms), DAC 8 (Reporting obligations for e-money + crypto assets) + the Central Electronic System of Payment information (“CESOP”) regimes, consulting with outsourced tax advisors as necessary.
  • The ability to work with Non-Finance Teams, such as the Product, IT + Customer Support Teams, to define + implement new IT systems + data capture processes is a strong asset.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years working in EMEA corporate income taxation (“CIT”) in the Tax Service Line of a Big Four accounting firm and/or in the Tax Department of a multi-national enterprise.
  • Qualified professional accountant or lawyer in the EMEA region, with formal academic education in financial accounting, taxation, corporate finance and/or law.
  • An EMEA CIT specialist who has the capacity + desire to learn about other types of taxation, such as sales tax, employment tax + operational tax reporting. Exposure to CIT regimes across multiple jurisdictions in the EMEA region, including Cyprus, is required.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, curious, attention to detail, strong organizational + quantitative skills, + ability to utilize technology.
  • Strong knowledge of, + practical experience working with a) International taxation, + b) The financial services, technology and/or FinTech industries.
  • Most importantly, a strong desire to constantly learn about FinTech, and emerging tax issues of the “digital services economy” + the curiosity to synthesize knowledge on the two together to solve real-world issues.
