About the team

The Fintech - Fraud & Risk team is a rapidly growing, focused product team responsible for safeguarding Toast’s ecosystem from malicious actors. This team plays a critical role in protecting our restaurant customers and their guests by preventing fraud, reducing risk exposure, and ensuring compliance across financial transactions.

We use advanced fraud prevention strategies, machine learning models, and risk management frameworks to detect fraudulent activities, mitigate chargebacks, reduce merchant fraud, and balance security with user experience.

About this roll*:

As a Senior Product Manager in the Fraud & Risk team, you will own the vision, strategy, and execution of fraud prevention and risk management products within Toast’s Fintech division. You will work cross-functionally to develop scalable solutions that protect restaurants, improve trust in the Toast ecosystem, and enhance fraud and risk management capabilities across our platform.

You will be responsible for building and scaling risk mitigation strategies, fraud detection tools, and automation processes that reduce financial losses while ensuring seamless payments for our merchants. This role offers high visibility and direct impact on Toast’s financial integrity and customer trust.

What you will do?:

  • Lead the fraud prevention & risk management product stream within Toast’s Fintech organization.
  • Develop and execute the product vision & strategy for fraud detection, merchant risk assessment, and chargeback reduction.
  • Drive product design and prioritization to develop innovative solutions for fraud prevention, risk monitoring, and automated threat mitigation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in Engineering, Data Science, Risk Operations, Customer Support, Legal, and Compliance to strengthen fraud defences.
  • Leverage data science & machine learning to enhance fraud detection, card fingerprinting, anomaly detection, and real-time risk scoring.
  • Identify and mitigate emerging fraud patterns, merchant risk factors, and employee fraud trends through data-driven insights.
  • Develop fraud management capabilities for enterprise merchants, improving transparency and self-service fraud controls.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance across international markets, aligning risk strategies with compliance requirements.
  • Measure and optimize fraud prevention KPIs, including fraud loss reduction, chargeback win rates, and payment decline optimization.
  • Balance risk and user experience, designing solutions that improve security without unnecessary friction for legitimate customers

Work Mode: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Do you have the right ingredients*?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience working as a product manager on large-scale consumer or enterprise products
  • Experience building fraud detection, chargeback prevention, or risk management solutions for financial services, payments, or SaaS platforms
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data to detect fraud trends and inform product decisions.
  • Knowledge of fraud mitigation techniques, such as chargeback management, risk scoring, transaction monitoring, and machine learning-based fraud detection.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams (Engineering, Data Science, Compliance, and Operations) to execute fraud prevention initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex challenges to executive stakeholders.
  • Experience working with fraud tools and platforms, such as identity verification, behavioral analytics, and risk scoring systems.
  • Self-starter mindset, with the ability to drive initiatives independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independent and curious, you set your own targets, ask for help when you need it and are always looking to learn something new
  • You are a self-starter, you love to understand systems inside out and make it your mission to deliver quality products
  • A knack for finding a way to get what you want, without waiting for conditions to be perfect
  • Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to independently layout and test clear hypotheses, and solve problems without well-defined direction
