Product Production Designer

Waking Up is seeking a talented Product Production Designer to own our design system, ensure consistency across platforms, and bridge any gaps between design and development. This role is ideal for someone passionate about crafting seamless experiences, managing design libraries, and ensuring the final product reflects the team’s intentions.

About Waking Up

Founded by Sam Harris, Waking Up is more than a meditation app—it’s a guide to understanding the mind and living a more fulfilling life. Sam Harris is the author of five New York Times bestsellers and has practiced meditation for over 30 years. We combine ancient wisdom with modern science to help people unlock deeper insights into their minds and lives.

Working with us

Product Market Fit: Waking Up is consistently a top-grossing meditation app. Thought leaders like Tim Ferriss, Susan Cain, and Peter Attia frequently recommend us because of the depth and quality we offer.

Culture: We’re funded by our loyal subscribers, not by venture capital. Our small, dedicated team moves quickly without the overhead of corporate bureaucracy. We strive to embody the mindfulness principles we promote in our app: treating each other with kindness, curiosity and collaborative spirit.

Philanthropy: Waking Up is free to anyone who cannot afford it. We donate at least 10% of our profits to charity through the Waking Up Foundation.

Distributed Team: Work from wherever you do your best work. We prioritize results, not hours or locations.

  • Support UX/UI Development Stories
    • Support the lead designer in creating detailed user flows and logic for new features.
    • Draft annotations describing user flows in Figma to help clarify the intended user experience for each feature, ensuring alignment within the team.
  • Participate in QA Sprints
    • Join QA sprints as a representative of the product team to validate UI/UX implementations.
    • Ensure that design intentions are fully realized and provide feedback to developers as needed.
  • Proficiency in Design Systems
    • We are looking for an expert in managing and scaling design systems (especially in Figma) within cross-functional teams.
    • A strong understanding of component libraries and design-to-development workflows is required.
    • An owner's mindset around building out, maintaining and disseminating all aspects of the Design System to support an efficient and healthy product lifecycle.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Excellent written communication skills across channels (Figma, ClickUp, email, Slack, GitHub).
    • Ability to clearly explain design decisions, UX logic, and technical requirements to developers and non-developers alike.
    • Willingness to disagree and commit. We like to challenge assumptions and hear differing opinions, and at the end of the day when the decision is made, we commit to the approach with unity.
    • You are comfortable working with executive and C-suite stakeholders, confidently presenting insights and recommendations.
  • Technical Understanding
    • Familiarity with front-end development basics and the ability to communicate design specifications in developer-friendly terms.
    • Experience maintaining and documenting product specifications in GitHub (or similar tools).

    • Ability to self-manage and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
