About the role

This Product Manager II (PMII) role is part of the Assessment Solutions team, directly responsible for the Authess and NHE Assessment Player products, with emphasis on authentic learning, outcome-driven assessment, and competency-based remediation. While the location is flexible, Philadelphia and surrounding areas are preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead a specific product family with responsibility for budgets and profitability.
  • Familiar with modern, agile product practices.
  • Recent experience developing and launching digital, web-based products, preferably with a track record of scale and commercial success. Edtech experience a plus.
  • Effective blend of technology and business expertise with an emphasis on technical integrations and strategies: represent your product in customer-facing environments, engage in technical discussions with development teams, maintain understanding of new technologies, and translate customer pain/needs (both external and internal customers) into requirements.
  • Strong collaborator with demonstrated track record working with stakeholders across the company, particularly sales, marketing, content, and technology.
  • Experience defining product KPIs/OKRs and staying disciplined in making data-driven product decisions.
  • Strong knowledge and appreciation for UX best practices and testing methodologies (e.g., A/B testing).
  • Ability to learn, think creatively and problem solve (recognizing new information, assimilating it and applying it to new ends).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including social awareness and judgment, persuasion and negotiation, and relationship building, collaboration and team building skills.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

Assessment Portfolio Strategy

  • Compile and evaluate research on the market's problems to be solved, then translates into outcome-oriented product requirements.
  • Prepare and coordinate product introductions and updates. 
  • Interact frequently with dependent teams and customers (internal and/or external), including customers of partner products, where relevant, and generate customer requirements.
  • Own and articulate product vision and strategy, while collaborating with your peers on roadmap and backlog priorities for your Squad.
  • Develop pipeline and implement monetizable product innovation to ensure new products are effective and educationally sound to meet rapidly shifting market needs and NHE product gaps. 
  • Research, evaluate, and implement effective applications of current and emerging trends in technology, assessment design, and education.
  • Apply a strategic understanding of how assessment and learning methods and education technology can meet business and strategic objectives.
  • Strategize product development plans, keeping sharable components and reduced costs top of mind.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to develop systems to analyze and organize data, with remediation and reporting capabilities that reflect progress towards improved learning outcomes.
  • Foster open dialogue and exchange of information with colleagues in other departments, including operations, content, sales, marketing, support, and technology, for informed decision making.

Problem Analysis and Resolution

  • Prioritize requested features and new capabilities among competing opportunities, weighing customer needs against business priorities and return on investment.
  • Evaluate data from customers and recommend ongoing instructional design improvements to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Synthesize information in alignment with division, project, or task goals and vision.
  • Collaborate with technology and operations teams to propose effective solutions to platform delivery issues.

Technology Proficiency

  • Apply solid understanding of new technologies and education to design and execute product strategies.
  • Understand and apply basic elements of data science and analytics, including simple data mining and statistics techniques.
  • Leverage familiarity with education and publishing industry standard applications, such as LTI, LMSs, and related applications.
  • Proficiency in various technologies to assist day-to-day tasks (Excel, JIRA, Confluence, Sharepoint, and developer tools). 
  • Consider high-level technical approaches to use when prioritizing functionality. 
  • Firm grasp of data and technical architecture principles and best practices. 
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development, engineering, or related technical fields, including proficiency in LTI integrations and API management. 
  • Ability to work closely with front- and back-end developers to strategize the best approach to product integrations. 
  • Proficiency in writing technical user stories.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Provide leadership perspective by keeping abreast of new technologies, understanding how they affect nursing and other health care education, and advocate effectively for their use.
  • Understand business imperatives and possess effective communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Participate in appropriate professional associations.
  • Persuasively articulate the rationale behind business decisions to key stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with others in product, content, technology, operations, and production.
  • Collaborate effectively within a squad model, working closely with leads to prioritize, build, and release sprint deliverables.

Functional and Technical Competencies

  • Experience in product development and instructional design, preferably in healthcare education.
  • Experience with higher education and education/learning technology.
  • Experience leading development of assessment or prep applications a plus.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts in health care education, publishers, course or curriculum designers, and media producers a plus.
  • Consider high-level technical approaches to use when prioritizing functionality.
