Manager, Underwriting

As Manager, Underwriting, you will lead a team of high performing Underwriters as they review a large volume of small business applications for financing. Your primary focus will be to ensure your team is effectively and efficiently reviewing applications in accordance with our underwriting guidance, so we can reach our funding volume and profitability goals in our expected turnaround times. You will provide them with consistent, daily feedback on their underwriting approach and performance, continually pushing them to improve. 

In this role you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of underwriters to ensure high performance, professional growth, and alignment with business goals.

  • Ensure your team of underwriters are working small business applications in accordance with our underwriting policies and guidelines

  • Work closely with underwriters on your team to address application-related concerns or issues, reviewing applications as needed, and helping them meet their operational KPIs

  • Report to underwriting leadership on team performance, and work with them on ways to enhance our department processes and guidelines, helping to drive department performance

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of professional experience in underwriting (consumer, small business, commercial)

  • 2+ years of experience leading and managing an underwriting team

  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, financial analysis, and regulatory requirements

  • Experience leading and coaching a team and driving results

  • Ability to effectively learn and process information in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong problem solving skills and effective decision making ability
