Home Visitor

As a Home Visitor at Harlem Children’s Zone, your primary responsibilities will include conducting weekly home visits, creating individualized lesson plans, and completing age-appropriate screenings and assessments of children’s developmental progress. You will also collaborate with families to establish individualized action plans that align with the goals of the Baby College GRADS program, ensuring each child's and family's needs are met effectively.

To be considered for the Home Visitor position at Harlem Children’s Zone, candidates should ideally hold an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field such as Psychology, Social Work, or Human Services. Additionally, a minimum of 12 credits in child development is required, along with at least six months of case management experience. Familiarity with the Harlem community and prior experience in home visiting are also significant assets.

A successful Home Visitor at Harlem Children’s Zone should possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and advocacy skills. You'll need to balance empathy with effective coaching techniques while being culturally sensitive to the backgrounds of diverse families. Engaging families during home visits involves building rapport through active listening, showing empathy, and tailoring your approach to each family's unique dynamics and culture. I would start by asking open-ended questions to understand their needs, encouraging them to share their thoughts and concerns. Then, I would collaboratively set goals and develop individualized plans to support them effectively.

To assess children's developmental needs, I would use age-appropriate screenings and observational assessments, ensuring that I'm familiar with developmental milestones.
