Site Operations Manager

Child Start is looking for a Site Operations Manager who is a highly qualified professional in the human services field, ready to oversee the overall strategies of Head Start centers in providing both direct classroom and family services that foster lifelong success for children and promote self-sufficiency for families. This role involves training and supporting Site Supervisors in enhancing their management skills to match the complexities of their responsibilities. The manager will develop standardized systems and best practices for center oversight and ensure their effective implementation. Additionally, they will lead the recruitment of new Site Supervisors and create pathways for non-management staff to acquire management experience, all while ensuring the continuity of center services.

  • Serve as a member of the program management team, sharing solutions with colleagues and committed to continuous improvement of all program operations.
  • Assist in strategic program planning processes, including establishing calendar, program goals, annual HS/EHS applications (and other funding opportunities, as they arise), PIR data completion, and program self-assessment.
  • Demonstrate positive approaches to operational challenges, incorporating both performance data and staff input toward solutions.
  • Prepares data-driven program reports that reflect current trends, challenges, and victories and presents information to peers in a manner that embraces improvement.
  • Facilitate the onboarding and orientation processes for new center staff.
  • Work closely with the Education Manager and Family Services Manager to support staff in using the Whole-Family approach.
  • Ensure program safety requirements are followed to ensure no child is left unsupervised or in an unsafe environment.
  • Train and mentor newly hired Site Supervisors on standard procedures and expectations.
  • Support individual site supervisors in building their skills in all areas required for successful center operations.
  • Ensure site-level purchase requests are appropriate, allowable, and within budget.
  • Encourages Site Supervisors to intentionally collaborate and discuss supply donations received and each other’s needs and resources. 
  • May step into direct center supervision as needed in the absence of a Site Supervisor.
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, human services, social work, or related field.
  • Five years’ progressive management experience, including budgeting and supervision.
  • Strongly prefer experience managing an early care and education center.
  • Must apply for certification from KDHE to manage a center of up to 100 children.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
  • Ability to determine and prioritize workload while being flexible to emergent/unplanned needs and situations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement complex policies and regulations.
  • Functional knowledge of Daycare Licensing Requirements.
  • Knowledge of DCF reporting mandates.
