The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks experienced and enthusiastic Digital Forensic Examiner II. The Digital Forensics Laboratory, within the Strategic Innovations Division, provides support for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office by forensically analyzing various types of digital evidence including mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, desktop and laptop computers, portable storage devices, as well as providing assistance in a variety of technology-related areas. Digital Forensic Examiners perform forensic analysis, document their process and findings, and testify in court.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Utilize forensic knowledge to extract and analyze various electronic devices including but not limited to mobile phones, tablets, GPS equipment, and traditional desktop and laptop computers and hard drives.
-Utilize various technical skills, including writing scripts, leverage different decoding / decryption techniques, and database / SQL skills, to analyze extracted data not readily supported by commercial forensic tools.
-Validate digital forensic results generated by commercial forensic tools using a variety of methods and tools including the use of hex editors
-Utilize forensic knowledge experience to perform data recovery in various file systems including NTFS, exFAT, APFS, HFS+.
-Conduct research on emerging technologies to inform Laboratory policies and procedures in the proper seizure, preservation, and collection methods.
-Write accurate and thorough reports following the standards and requirements of the Digital Forensics Laboratory.
-Testify to forensic analysis, reports, and findings in Grand Jury and Trial proceedings.
-Image digital storage devices and conduct a forensic examination of recovered data.
-Participate in the execution of search warrants involving digital evidence retrieval and forensic examination of computers, mobile devices, and network media including video surveillance footage.
-Serve as Subject Matter Experts to best guide ADAs and Investigators to properly seize, preserve, and collect digital evidence.
-Provide guidance to junior Lab personnel in various data extraction techniques.
-Perform case intake of devices received by the Lab by preparing new case files and chain of custody documentation.
-Disassemble, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware.
-All other duties as assigned.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
