What We Do

Mapbox is a global team of builders. We are developers and geographers, data scientists and drivers, designers and AI visionaries. Together, we are reimagining how location technologies move the world. We create map data and location services (navigation, search, directions), and enable our customers with SDKs they love. We are expanding and building 3D/HD data, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) data, and Navigation data based on AI assisted sensor data aggregation and aerial imagery extraction to create delightful user experiences. Our SD (road network) data, ADAS data, and our 3D/HD data is published in various forms (formats, layers, tiles) to internal service teams, SDK customers, and direct data customers (e.g., self driving cars and trucks). We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join us in the United States to own and implement these data publication services and help establish a team of Software Engineers expanding the scope of our data publication services.

What You'll Do

  •  Implement a new data publication service (data format, layers, tiles) for our 3D/HD data for self driving vehicles

  • Expand data publication for ADAS and Navigation map data for additional data and new formats

  • Code and implement data processing and conversion within cloud applications, leveraging technologies such as Python, SQL, AWS, and Spark, while ensuring high scalability and cost efficiency

  • Collaborate with multiple R&D teams to integrate our data seamlessly into our products

  • Experience deploying data pipelines within scalable cloud applications, preferably on platforms such as AWS and Spark

  • Strong understanding of geospatial data concepts and tools (PostGIS, QGIS) and ideally also with some map data formats (e.g. GeoJSON, Mapbox Vector Tile Format, OpenUSD, OpenDRIVE, Mathworks Matlab RoadRunner)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail

  • Outstanding communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams

  • This role is collaborating on a daily basis with our teams in Europe, this means early morning availability is a must have to maximize time zone overlaps

Nice to Have Traits for This Role

  • Prior experience in the mapping, navigation, or automotive industries

  • Knowledge in some of the following map data formats is highly desirable: GeoJSON, Mapbox Vector Tile Format, NDS.Live, OpenUSD, OpenDRIVE, Mathworks Matlab RoadRunner

  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques for geospatial data analysis

  • Contributions to open-source projects related to geospatial data or data analysis
