Project Manager, Construction

The Project Manager is the single point of responsibility and accountability for the project, ensuring its successful execution from inception to completion. Responsibilities include strategic pre-construction planning, client and stakeholder relationship management, material buyouts, submittal review and approval, field measurement coordination, material inspections, and oversight of weekly progress meetings. The Project Manager also leads cost control, schedule control, quality assurance, change management, construction coordination, punch list resolution, and project closeout. 


In addition to technical and operational duties, the Project Manager is responsible for high-level risk assessment and mitigation strategies, contract negotiation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. They play a key role in business development by identifying new opportunities and fostering long-term client partnerships. The successful Project Manager executes Milhouse procedures, operates with minimal oversight, proactively solves complex project challenges, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. Furthermore, they actively mentor and develop Project Engineers into future Project Managers, fostering leadership growth within the organization. 

**Please note this role will follow our hybrid schedule of 4 days in-office at our Lombard office.


What you will do:
  • Read and interpret project drawing and specifications, provide material take-offs, formulate construction cost estimates, and prepare proposals.  
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget.  
  • Prepare change order documentation.  
  • Create project management plans.  
  • Create project quality control plans.  
  • Prepare Critical Path Method Schedules.  
  • Reading, understanding, and working with construction crews to follow project specific documents.  
  • Maintaining project files.  
  • Creating inspection check lists.  
  • Carrying out and documenting the results of construction inspections.  


What we are looking for:
  • Technical & Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet-based tools. Knowledge of CPM schedule analysis and applicable construction codes and standards. 
  • Construction & Safety Expertise: Ability to work safely in a construction environment while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards. 
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Guides and mentors others, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Encourages adaptability, resilience, and professional growth within teams. 
  • Communication & Collaboration: Effectively interacts with diverse technical and business audiences. Communicates complex messages clearly, ensuring understanding between various stakeholders. 
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Identifies issues, analyzes risks, and develops resolution strategies. Facilitates consensus-building and effective conflict resolution. 
  • Team Management & Performance Optimization: Monitors individual and team morale, evaluates effectiveness, and drives improvements. Promotes a collaborative environment focused on shared accomplishments. 
  • Written Communication & Documentation: Produces clear, audience-specific technical and business documentation. Reviews and provides constructive feedback on written materials. 


Your background:
  • Four-year bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field from an ABET accredited institution. 
  • 5-10 years related experience, including commercial construction management experience and experience working with public entities.  
  • Bi-Lingual, Spanish Speaking is advantageous.
  • Professional registration or PMP (or equivalent) certification is preferred.  
  • Memberships and accreditations from the following and similar societies, associations, and organizations: American Concrete Institution, American Institution of Steel Construction, American Society of Testing Materials is preferred.  


$90,000 - $130,000 a year
The actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
