Director of Special Programs

Overview: The Director of Special Education Programs will oversee the development, implementation, and management of special education services within a virtual school environment. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in special education, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for supporting students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement special education programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are effectively developed and implemented.
  • Evaluate and modify special education programs to meet student needs.

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide leadership and direction to special education staff, including teachers, therapists, and aides.
  • Organize professional development programs for special education staff.
  • Coordinate with other departments to integrate special education students into regular education programs when appropriate.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements related to special education (Special Education, IDEA,504, EL, and Federal Programs).
  • Review and interpret educational laws and regulations.
  • Manage budget and resources for the special education department.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to identify students with special needs and ensure they receive appropriate services.
  • Address concerns and complaints related to special education programs.
  • Foster an inclusive virtual learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of all students.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid state certification in Special Education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in a virtual school setting is preferred.
