Founding Product Designer

About Sunset

Sunset helps tech startups shut down by handling all the legal, tax, and operational burdens associated with winding down. We are the one-stop shop for dissolutions, ensuring founders and investors avoid penalties, reduce liabilities, and can immediately move on to what's next.

In just 1.5 years, we’ve helped over 200 venture-backed startups shut down, generating millions in revenue and raising millions from some of the world’s best investors.

About the Role

As a Founding Product Designer, you’ll have a ground-floor opportunity in a design-driven company. You will evolve our design processes, own entire projects, and help build a world-class customer experience.

This role is ideal for an individual contributor who wants to champion our users’ voices, move fast, own decisions, and ship products. You will help eliminate busywork and repetitive tasks for our external customers and internal teams of customer success managers, lawyers, and CPAs. Your designs will balance the need for agentic workflows while keeping humans in the loop.

This role requires you to research and prioritize the most pressing problems, shape the product vision, ensure we're shipping outstanding solutions, and synchronize with the entire team to get it adopted and improved.

This role is for you if:

  • Problem and Customer Obsessed: You ask questions constantly and want to understand the why behind everything. You don’t immediately jump to a solution but work to distill the core problems at hand and always advocate for the best experience for our customers.

  • Taste: You have an incredible eye and know what’s good and bad design. You iterate your way towards simplicity and strive for world-class aesthetics.

  • Executor: You create designs efficiently and effectively, ensuring timely delivery without compromising quality. You are proactive and able to push the product and team forward.

This role is not for you if:

  • No Prior Design Experience: This role isn’t for you if you’ve never been a product designer at a tech startup.

  • Mission Alignment: You aren’t excited by Sunset’s mission of helping founders move on to what's next and supporting them through a challenging time.

  • Early-Stage Challenges: You’re not interested in early-stage startups.

  • Location: You don’t live in NYC or want to move to NYC.

  • Work Environment: You don’t want to work in person, 5 days a week in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

What success looks like:

  • Shaping the Product Vision: Based on real-world problems that our customers and team are facing.

  • Shipping World-Class Products: You will ensure that Sunset offers one of the most aesthetic, delightful, and well-designed experiences to our customers.

  • Synchronizing with the Team: Ensuring you receive feedback from the team, conduct proper user research, and deliver solutions to the most pressing problems.

What you'll do in the first 6 months:

  • Learn: Immerse yourself in everything Sunset, our customers, and the dissolution process. Gain a comprehensive knowledge of our products, services, and industry landscape.

  • Lead Design and UX: Take the lead on design and user experience for most parts of our core product.

  • Own the Design Process: Own the design process from prioritization through launch.

  • Collaboration: Work directly with the Engineering team, C-Suite, customers, and our internal teams.

  • Design Deliverables: Create wireframes, prototypes, dive into user feedback, and launch products end-to-end.

  • Team Rituals: Kickstart team rituals like design critiques, journey mapping, design studios, etc.

  • Leadership Role: Begin taking on more leadership roles in design discussions, offering insights and suggestions for improving existing designs.

Benefits:

At Sunset, we believe in taking care of our team. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Health Coverage: We cover 100% of premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance, offering the best and most comprehensive plans available.

  • Generous Time Off: Enjoy 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year, plus 9 company-wide holidays.

  • Office Setup Allowance: $500 allowance for your in-office desk setup, ensuring you have the tools you need to succeed.
