Staff Software Engineer - Office to the CTO

Overview

We’re looking for a seasoned, generalist engineer to partner directly with our CTO. In this role, you’ll drive high-impact projects spanning multiple teams—particularly focused on our core applications built with Rails, React, and LLMs.

You’ll prototype new ideas and select technologies to solve pain points for engineers across our product and platform teams. You’ll influence technical vision, architecture, and best practices. This is a hands-on coding role for someone who thrives on collaboration, enjoys mentoring, and loves solving complex business problems with technology.

What You’ll Do

  1. Architect & Lead: Work alongside our CTO to design and evolve the end-to-end architecture for our core platform, ensuring it’s scalable, secure, and maintainable as we grow.

  2. Performance & Reliability: Champion building with monitoring & observability top of mind. Diagnose and identify roadmaps to solve our next scalability challenges.

  3. Leadership & Mentorship: Coach engineers at all levels, setting standards for code quality, testing, and maintainability. Foster an environment of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.

  4. Hands-On Development: Write high-quality, clean code in our primary stacks (Rails & React).

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in software development (Staff/Principal level), ideally working on large-scale SaaS products.

  • Proficiency in Rails & React (or similar web frameworks) and relational databases.

  • Track Record of Technical Leadership, including experience shaping roadmaps, making high-stakes decisions, delivering complex features end-to-end features.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Able to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and drive alignment in cross-functional settings.

  • Passion for Mentorship: Committed to growing and inspiring engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
