This position is a hybrid or remote role based out of Maple Plain, MN. You must be located in MN.


The Compensation Analyst is primarily accountable for assisting in the development, analysis, design, implementation, and service delivery of Protolabs' compensation programs. This role is responsible for providing project support for annual and ongoing HR processes and initiatives within the Global Total Rewards Center of Excellence. This role acts as a primary resource serving company management and the HR team for the United States region and Global Functions. 


You will:
  • Analyze and execute various compensation programs, including job evaluation, global salary structure development and maintenance, bonus programs, and long-term incentives while continuously seeking ways to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Recommend and implement rewards policies and programs that resonate with our company's compensation philosophy and business goals, as well as ensuring market competitiveness.
  • Participate in compensation surveys, and conduct market research, analysis & benchmarking to ensure our compensation programs remain market competitive and compliant with regulations.
  • Utilize analytical skills to generate insights by sourcing and consolidating data to create reports, conduct data audits, and support strategic decision-making processes while ensuring internal equity.
  • Develop clear communication materials and training content to educate and consult with stakeholders about compensation programs and core processes, fostering understanding and transparency across the organization.
  • Support HR and business leadership in implementing workforce planning (e.g. budgeting) and organizational changes from a compensation program and process standpoint, employing effective change management methods and tools.


What it takes:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, IT, Finance or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant and progressive experience within the compensation and/or broader total rewards domain, utilizing independent judgement and discretion when fulfilling work activities.
  • Staff-level professional within field, where the incumbent operates under general guidance and work assignments are varied and require interpretation and independent decisions on courses of action.
  • Working knowledge and capabilities with Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel.
  • Proficiency with relational database architecture.
  • Quantitative analytical skills.
  • Utilize multi-tasking skills to meet multiple deadlines and complete projects.
  • Completes work assignments with meticulous detail and accuracy, ensuring a high level of quality.
  • Communicates clearly in a variety of settings, including written, verbal, and situational.
  • Works within company policies & applies discipline to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

  • Experience with HR data and related HRIS applications (e.g. UKG/UltiPro).
  • Working knowledge of HR practices.

$74,900 - $112,300 a year
Protolabs offers a competitive total rewards package, and compensation mix vary based on position, such as base wage, as well as other earnings including incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, job function, work experience, specialized skills, training, education, and certifications. 

Proto Labs maintains ITAR-compliant operations in all of our United States based facilities.  Due to ITAR regulations, this role is only open to U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents (green card holders) or foreign nationals granted refugee or asylee status.  Individuals with temporary visas (e.g. E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J, TN or OPT) are not eligible for hire in this role.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. However, there may be job duties that require the employee to spend time in the manufacturing areas exposed to machinery and noise; eye protection occasionally required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
