Job Summary:
Raytheon is seeking a Meteorological Software Engineering Intern to work in a fast-paced Agile development environment for modernizing science-driven applications to operate on cloud and HPC platforms. Our team provides acceleration of community-developed scientific and technological enhancements into the operational applications for Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and improved Research to Operations (R2O).
The ideal candidate will be a highly enthusiastic team member excited about learning new technologies and continually evolving an operational system. In this position the intern will have the opportunity to have hands-on development of new system capabilities supporting climate research.
What You Will Do:
Work with a team to develop the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) based numerical weather prediction models.
Help develop a workflow that will deploy the global AI model.
Work with AI data sets such as GFS, GEFS, GDAS, UFS-Replay, and CONUS404
Support the configuration management of a public-facing and open-source GitHub repository and documentation for global AI models.
Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of his/her immediate supervisor
Qualifications You Must Have:
Qualifications We Prefer:
Knowledge of global Artificial Intelligence (AI) based numerical weather prediction models.
Experience with AI data loading frameworks such as Anemoi.
Understanding of end-to-end model testing frameworks for AI applications such as weatherbench2 or MetPlus.
Experience in building and running AI numerical weather models on both on-premise and cloud computing technologies.
Experience using programming languages such as Python in an Agile environment.
Knowledge of Agile or Lean-based development principles (e.g. Sprints, Scrums, Backlogs)
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with NOAA’s AI for numerical weather team that allows for deployment of deterministic and ensemble-based configurations of the global AI models.
