Job Purpose:
The role provides Human Resources Management expertise in areas such as recruitment, performance management, compensation, and employee relation to Vivo Energy South Africa (VESA) by working in close collaboration with the respective Heads of Function and the Central teams based in South Africa (SA).
HR responsibilities for VESA include aspects wrt compliance with the local legislative environment, employment equity, policy review/development, payroll oversight, the management of the international assignee process and aspects of Office Services.
The role also presents regularly at the VESA Board on people matters and the Social & Ethics Committee.

Principal Accountabilities:
Talent Resourcing and Onboarding
- Full accountability for the local end-to-end resourcing process in SA, inclusive of final offer, employment contracts, etc. Alternatively, support Group HR Business Partners in the engagement and contracting process for SA terms and conditions of employment.
- Responsible for delivering SA recruitment targets, wrt diversity and inclusion, in alignment with Employment Equity Plan.
- Managing the effective onboarding of all new joiners in the local SA environment, including conducting new hire orientation, processing verifications and ensuring all new hires are setup up with internal IT systems, payroll, and benefits.
- Support and manage the mobility process of employees specifically assigned to SA for international assignments, including immigration support for securing work visas, relocation support ito housing and sourcing vehicle (where needed) and ongoing management of any aspect in relation to their assignment, whether a full international assignment or on local non-national terms.
Performance Management & Talent management
- Facilitate the annual performance management processes, ensuring fair and consistent calibration of employee performance across SA.
- Work with business leaders to establish measurable performance goals for employees and track utilization of the system to ensure finalization of performance plans.
- Identify high potential employees and support their accelerated development and career progression in the company.
- Identify individuals at risk to market pressures and implement relevant retention plans, in line with HRBP’s.
Employee Engagement and Culture
- Drive initiatives to foster a high-performance culture, enhancing employee engagement, motivation, and overall job satisfaction across all business units.
- Lead diversity efforts, promoting a diverse workforce, including driving gender diversity aligned to the group targets.
- Foster a high-performance culture by embedding company values and behaviors across the business.
Reward
- Compile and manage employment offers, termination packages (where applicable), etc. aligned to processes and practices and taking into account key business requirements and securing appropriate approvals.
- Regular interaction with the Reward team to validate offers, international assignees, etc. as required.
- Manage the Annual Salary Review (ASR) process for VESA.
- Oversee payroll management, confirming all monthly payroll changes and ensuring compliance with approval requirements and internal policies. Oversee 3rd Party payment process.
Management of Information & Reporting
- Maintain updated records of all recruitment, leavers, training completed, succession plans, organigrams etc.
- Ensure that the central HR Information System (SuccessFactors or other) is kept up to date at all times.
- Review and confirm leave accumulation, provisions and forfeitures.
- Monthly reporting of leave and bonus provisions to Finance dept.
- Present quarterly update at the VESA Board and Social & Ethics Committee meetings wrt relevant HR topics for SA, e.g. Employment Equity, Learning & Developments initiatives, etc.
- Compilation and submission of quarterly report to STATS SA.
Employee Relations and Employment Equity
- Maintain VESA HR policies, recommend and implement approved changes.
- Compliance with Labour Law: Stay updated with the local, e.g. Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), etc. to ensure company policies are aligned with legal requirements.
- Provide guidance to line managers on IR policies and processes, ensuring compliance with labor legislation and minimizing risks.
- Conduct and/or manage disciplinary and grievance processes within VESA.
- Conduct or assist line managers with the implementation of a performance improvement process for poor performers.
- Manage internal and external dispute resolution.
- Manage Employment Equity (EE) for VESA, i.e. managing the compilation and sign-off of an EE Plan, submit the statutory annual EE Reports, conducting the EE Forum meetings, etc.
- Deliver employee wellness initiatives and manage the wellness service provider in line with corporate agreement.
Office Services
- Manage the relationship with all external services providers relevant to HR Office Services.
- Manage external service provider contracts, i.e. rental leases / travel / insurance / office services, etc.
Other
- Act as an ambassador of the core values and operating culture of the company and ensure that these are upheld within the company.
- Manage the process with external auditors, i.e. compiling and submission of relevant data & responding to queries.
- Ensure strict adherence to the Manual of Authorities.
- Support the advancement of HR practice within Vivo Energy through new initiatives, projects and programs.
- Involvement in HR projects, central or within respective functions as required.
Key Challenges:
- The position does not have any permanent direct reports and will therefore need to be self-reliant.
- The ability to get things done through others without any direct line manager authority.
- Managing HR for very diverse stakeholders and create an engaging working environment.
- Working virtually with some stakeholders with limited F2F interactions.
- Ability to meet deliverables within short timeframes and prioritise deadlines from multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensuring accurate application of SA Labour law and maintain legal compliance.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Human Resources.
- At least 5 - 8 years proven HR generalist experience in a commercial set-up.
- In-depth knowledge of South African labour laws and employment regulations.
- Recognised as a well-rounded HR professional.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to operate independently and interact with Senior Management.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Strong commercial mind-set and customer focus.
